Die Toten Hosen, the German way of talking about boredom, were careful enough to live to the fullest their days and stirred the pots in Germany and around. In almost every year of their career, Die Toten Hosen shook the earth with rhythms, messages or just though the punk attitude.

The fun began in 1982 in a punk bar in Dusseldorf, and the following year they already had a contract with EMI Music. That’s how the Germans starting gaining traction, playing in ’84 at BBC Radio One, guests of DJ John Peel. A band with an attitude, Die Toten Hosem soon changed its record label, signing with Virgin Records. In ’85 they played in France, thanks to the Goethe Institute and by the end of the year they’ve reached Poland and Hungary.

Their first concert in front of a very large audience took place in ’86 at Anti-WAAhnsinns Festival, a political oriented event against the building of a nuclear reprocessing plant where over 100,000 people were present during the two festival days; a historic record for a rock concert in those times.

1988 was a reference year in the band history due to the release of the Ein kleines bisschen Horrorschau” EP, inspired by Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange, promoting the song “Hier Kommt Alex”. In the same year, the band members even played in the stage performance directed by Bernd Schadewald.

Hier Kommt Alex resurfaced in an unplugged concert with an introduction from the Moon Sonata by Beethoven. The song was also adapted by Activition for the “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock” video game, released in 2007.

In 1991 Die Toten Hosen release their first English album, a tribute dedicated to the band’s idols, with whom they recorded at least one song: Joey Ramone of the Ramones, T.V. Smith of The Adverts and many more. The year 1996 was declared the Jägermeister year in German, Austrian and Swiss music charts due to the most successful Die Toten Hosen Song: Zehn kleine Jägermeister, a parody of the well-known song “Ten Little Indians” part of the album number seven released by the band, “Opium fürs Volk”, and considered its best.

Over time, Die Toten Hosen expressed its attachment towards their native town though different actions. In the summer of 1995, the band members competed in the local “Powerplay des Wahnsinns”, sports competition, as a team with the hockey players from “Düsseldorfer EG Metro Stars” against the Finns of “Leningrad Cowboys”, supported by the national Finnish hockey team. In this period, “DEG Metro Stars” lead the national top, in 1991 being second in Eurocup; the team wears on their official uniform the Die Toten Hosen logo.

At the end of the 80s, the band donated 200,000 German marks for the acquisition of the Anthony Baffoe for the Fortuna Düsseldorf football club. In the years 2000, it supported the club in a difficult financial time and later, transferred all the proceedings from a contract to sponsoring the young football team; on the Esprit Arena football stadium the chorus from “Strom” is played every time Fortuna Düsseldorf scores.

Die Toten Hosen members and constantly involved in social activities in Germany, dedicating their lyrics and concerts to social causes. In ’92 they took part in a demonstration in Bonn, playing along Nina Hagen and Herbert Grönemeyer in front of almost 200,000 demonstrators. In ’95 they supported GreePeace, BUND and other organizations that militate against nuclear war. In 2002, they supported a PETA campaign with the slogan “Better naked than with fur”, of course posing naked for animal rights. They also fought for human rights alongside Pro Asyl in 2005, dedicating the song “Meine Stadt” to the campaign.

Today, the Modern Art Museum in New York, MoMA, features a huge photo taken during a Die Toten Hosen Concert and signed by artist Andreas Gursky. Numerous artists played their songs and in 2002 and 2005 the band played at the larges European Festival: Przystanek Woodstock; over 400,000 attendees. In 2010 they played in Central Asia and this is how they became the first foreign band on stage in the former soviet republic of Tajikistan. In the same year, the band played in the Middle East, in Amman, Jordan.

The summer of 2012 will be very interesting for Die Toten Hones, headlining Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park and ARTmania Festival. The band celebrates 30 years of existence in April, releases a new album four years after the last one and prepares for new musical adventures.

In 2012, Festivalul ARTmania de la Sibiu va avea loc in perioada 6 – 12 august si va oferi iubitorilor de arta un program cultural variat ce va include concerte, expozitii, workshop-uri si alte evenimente speciale dedicate artelor frumoase.

Die Toten Hosen va canta vineri, in jurul orei 22:00, in cea mai frumoasa piata publica din Romania. “Pushed Again”, “Hier Kommt Alex”, “Zehn Kleine Jägermeister” si multe alte melodii consacrate vor fi ascultate live la Sibiu. Delain va urca pe scena din Piata Mare sambata, 11 august, in timp ce norvegienii de la Trail of Tears vor da startul concertelor din Piata Mare vineri, 10 august 2012.

In acelasi an, membrii trupei au si jucat in dramatizarea lui Bernd Schadewald. Piesa a fost adaptata si de Activition in jocul “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock” lansat in 2007.

In 1991, Die Toten Hosen lanseaza primul album in limba engleza, un tribut dedicat idolilor trupei inregistrat impreuna cu cel putin un membru din fiecare formatie: Joey Ramone din Ramones, T.V. Smith din The Adverts si multi altii. Anul 1996, a fost declarat anul Jägermeister in topurile muzicale din Germania, Austria si Elvetia datorita celei mai de succes piese Die Toten Hosen: “Zehn kleine Jägermeister”, o parodiere a melodiei populare zece negrii mititei, parte a albumului cu numarul sapte in discografia trupei, “Opium fürs Volk”, considerat cel mai bun album Die Toten Hosen.

De-a lungul istoriei, Die Toten Hosen si-a exprimat atasamentul fata de orasul natal prin diverse actiuni. In vara anului 1995, membrii trupei au concurat in competitia sportiva “Powerplay des Wahnsinns”, formand o echipa alaturi de membrii lotului de hochei “Düsseldorfer EG Metro Stars” impotriva finlandezilor “Leningrad Cowboys”, sustinuti de nationala de hochei a Finlandei. In aceasta perioada “DEG Metro Stars” a condus in mare parte clasamentul national, in 1991 clasandu-se chiar pe locul doi in Eurocup; echipa poarta pe tricourile oficiale sigla Die Toten Hosen.

In acelasi an, trupa a concertat si in Orientul Mijlociu, respectiv in Amman, Jordan.
